Firewood

Fireplace wood – which species are the best?

We deliver fireplace wood at a low price to many localities: Warsaw, Konstancin, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Pruszków, Piaseczno and many others.

No matter how long firewood is seasoned, softwood from coniferous trees is not very suitable for burning in a fireplace. It contains resin that, as it evaporates, settles on the glass and inside the chimney, forming an oily layer that is difficult to remove. In high temperatures resin tends to shoot up, which is a serious issue with an open fireplace. You avoid this with wood that contains little resin, so hardwood from deciduous trees. It burns evenly without producing excess smoke. This keeps not only the fireplace glass clean, but also the chimney flue, which is much more difficult to clean. Unfortunately, hardwood also has its drawbacks: if it contains too many acids and tannins, which emit smoke, soot, acids, tar and other substances during combustion, it will contaminate the fireplace and flue as well.

The best and most calorific fireplace hardwood species are: hornbeam, ash and beech. Fruit trees are also valuable, especially plum, apple or pear. The density of plum wood is comparable to hornbeam, and apple and pear wood to ash. Cherry and sour cherry wood has a lower calorific value; it additionally contains wood gum, hence it can emit more pollutants during combustion.

Is firewood environmentally friendly?

Producing firewood does not consume a lot of energy, does not harm the environment or humans, and the costs associated with the establishment of new forests are not high, which weighs in favour of choosing wood as a fuel for your home. Burning firewood does not increase carbon dioxide pollution in the environment because trees emit less carbon dioxide than they absorb through photosynthesis, so the overall balance is positive.
